Rotherham United star Kieran Agard is Massimo Cellino’s next target as the increased sense of urgency to Leeds United’s transfers continues in the wake of a poor showing at Millwall on opening day.

Agard has been on The Whites radar for a while with Cellino himself scouting the League One play-off final at the end of last season as Rotherham won promotion to the Championship.

The 24-year-old who started his career in the Arsenal academy before making his professional début at Everton had a hugely impressive 2013/14 scoring 26 goals in 54 appearances.

It appears Leeds United may have a job convincing Rotherham to part with their star player however. Agard would have been out-of-contract this summer but Rotherham exercised a clause in his contract which allowed them to extend his stay by an additional year. They’ve since attempted to extend his contract further and insist they have no plans to sell despite the interest being shown.

But Agard has rejected Rotherham’s offer of a new contract and as we’ve been victim to ourselves many times over the last few years, when a player is in his final year and wants to leave, the club often has little choice but to sell.

Deployable as a forward or a winger, Agard would further strengthen the Leeds United attacking line following the arrival of Billy Sharp yesterday.
