Leeds United’s top five goalkeepers TSS February 20, 2014 Leeds United, Top fives 17 Comments 3. John Lukic The goalkeeper who last won silverware for Leeds United, John Lukic has the unusual record of playing two separate spells for both Leeds and Arsenal, winning League titles with both clubs. Lukic also shares something of an overlap with David Seaman, who, like Lukic started out in the Leeds United Academy before going on to sign for Arsenal. In fact, at one point in time Seaman was understudy to Lukic at Elland Road, a point the Arsenal fans quickly made fuss over when Seaman replaced the fans favourite as their number one. Funny old game, football. Returning to Elland Road for £1m in 1990 after being displaced by David Seaman as Arsenal’s number one, Lukic would go on to win the league title with The Whites two years later, forever cementing his place in history at both of clubs. Lukic would spend six years as Leeds’ first choice keeper before another future England keeper in the form of Nigel Martyn burst onto the scene to replace him, at which point, he returned to Arsenal to see out the rest of his career.
