The Chief in action

Living Legend

Short of reincarnating Billy Bremner and pairing him up with Bill Gates, there are few takeover or investment scenarios which could appeal to Leeds United more than one which involves living legend, Lucas Radebe.

While few details of his plan have been released to the public, the former Leeds United captain did confirm he’s hoping to purchase a stake in the club and help restore the Whites to former glories.

It’s a pitch we’ve heard many times before of course, easily dismissed as just another takeover story that’ll amount to nothing after building our hopes to unrealistic levels. A cynic might theorise that the Chief’s involvement is the work of some savvy would-be investor who knows how to push the right buttons with Leeds United fans and question how qualified our hero is to play a vital part in the running of our football club.

Not me though. “Dare to dream” was the message LUST Chairman Gary Cooper kept repeating during a previous takeover saga, and since cynicism hasn’t done my mental health much good, I’m going to jump on the “who cares if he knows what he’s doing, he’s the Chief for Christ sake…” bandwagon. Next stop, the Champions League.

More pressing matters come in the shape of Middlesbrough as The Whites resume their league campaign following the international break. Our last Elland Road clash with Boro was the start of GFH’s reign around this time last year. Leeds put an end to a 4 match streak of failing to beat the geographically confused, wannabe Yorkshiremen on home soil, winning the contest 2-1 to give GFH the perfect start as the club’s new owners.

Leeds will be hoping to maintain the improved run of form they enjoyed before the international break and could find themselves inside the play-off spots with victory tomorrow. They’ll have to do so without the help of Scott Wootton however, who is sidelined through injury and will be replaced by Marius Zaliukas.
