While Leeds fans have been sent into a speculative frenzy after Robert Snodgrass revealed the club had had offers from Premier League clubs, and was confused by Leeds’ sale of club captain Jonny Howson while supposedly pushing for promotion, Neil Warnock has revealed the Scot has been offered a contract that will make him the club’s top earner.

Warnock said:

I want him to be our captain next year and I’ve asked him to give us a year to get Leeds United into the Premier League…

It would be a massive step forward for Rob for him to nail his colours to the mast. I think he loves the club and has a lot of loyalty, and as captain I think he will support us in what we are trying to do.

Snodgrass has been an integral part of Leeds’ team for the past four seasons. This season he is the club’s second best scorer on 13, behind Ross McCormack, while with 12 assists, he has created twice the goals of the club’s next best creator Ross McCormack (5).

Earlier today Snodgrass said:

[Warnock’s] confident because he knows the Championship and he knows the players he can bring in to take us to the next level.

I’ve spoken to him and all he is talking about is how we shouldn’t be in this position because of some of the performances.

Against the top three we should have won every game. He knows there’s positive signs and with his ambition and drive he could take us to the next level.

Of course everyone wants to be a part of it because Leeds is the place to be and getting this club back to the Premier League would mean something special.

Ambition is thought to have been key for both Howson and Snodgrass. On the eve of Warnock’s appointment, Snodgrass had aserted:

Every game you go into, you have to believe that you’re going to win it. The day when you stop approaching games like that, I’d hang my boots up and never play again.

While he hasn’t signed yet, his committal promises to be the first step in Warnock’s plans for promotion and suggests Warnock will decide to stay on next season. On twitter, Phil Hay has promised the full Snodgrass story in tomorrow’s YEP saying Warnock has made “positive noises” about his meeting with Ken Bates.

Warnock has said that Aidy White will soon be offered a contract, while talks are ongoing with Ross McCormack and Adam Clayton.
