24-year old United States international Robbie Rogers has agreed a deal to join Leeds United, subject to the former Columbus Crew star receiving a work permit.

Rogers was in attendance at the Emirates last night to see The Whites narrowly beaten by Arsenal which further fuelled speculation he was about to join Leeds United.

In his five years with Columbus Crew, Rogers has made 128 appearances scoring 17 times. He was part of the 2008 MLS Cup winning team which in the same year also won the Supporters Cup – a trophy they successfully defended in 2009.

In the double winning season of 2008, Rogers was named in the MLS Best XI and in 2011 he was voted Columbus Crew’s hardest working player.

A successful 2008 saw Rogers gain international recognition with a call up to the United States side for the Beijing Olympics. Robbie has since won 18 caps for the USA, scoring twice.

It’s worth noting that Rogers may find it difficult to obtain a UK work permit. He doesn’t meet the criteria for guaranteed eligibility so Leeds United will have to argue his case. I presume, since he’s been offered a contract based on the outcome, that the club are pretty confident.
