Committed!

Good news for Whites fans today as the official Leeds United site reveals that South African striker, Davide Somma has signed a new three year deal with the club.

The 25 year old has scored 6 times in 8 appearances so far this season but his contract was due to expire in the summer, leaving Leeds United fans fearing a repeat of last seasons Jermaine Beckford saga that eventually saw our most valuable asset move to Everton on a free.

Davide said he was delighted to sign the new contract adding that;

“When I came here to try out I never imagined I would be in this position.

“Last season I thought I did what I had to do when I went out on loan, and that gave me the extra confidence to come back here.

“I’ve worked hard and the club have acknowledged that, and I’m really happy to sign a three-year contract.

“I can concentrate on the games and I’m signed and ready to go.

“The aim for me is to get goals and play a part in getting the club in the Premier League.

“It’s been a great start to the season, there’s great staff here, and It’s a great club to be at.

“Since I’ve arrived everyone has made me feel welcome,  the fans are fantastic, and I’m delighted to commit my long-term future.”

News of Somma’s new contract comes just days after Bradley Johnson turned down a three year extension and the YEP revealed around a dozen players were out of contract in the summer.

Despite heading up Leeds United’s top goalscorer list, Somma was dropped to the bench for vital away wins at Scunthorpe and Coventry leading to fears the South African may become disillusioned with life at Elland Road and wait to see how things go before committing to the club long-term. But fans will now feel relieved that the club has avoided another Jermaine Beckford saga.
