A story in the Watford Observer claims Watford’s 30-year old midfielder, John Eustace has signed for Leeds United.

It’s claimed Leeds United snatched Eustace from under the noses of Watford at the last second. The newspaper report says Eustace was supposed to be meeting with the chairman to sign a new contract, but Leeds United moved in at the last second and Eustace phoned Watford to tell them he couldn’t make the contract signing.

Watford boss, Malky Mackay said;

“Leeds approached John very late on and wanted to talk to him.

“We’ve been in discussions with John for the last few months about signing a new contract.

“He wanted to make sure his own future was safe in this division before signing.

“After securing our Championship status we agreed terms but a last-minute approach came in for him.”

With no confirmation from Leeds United as yet, or any of the more credible news agencies, I’m not certain this story is true. If the deal was completed yesterday (as the report is dated), you’d expect to have heard something from Leeds United by now?

A bit older than I’d have liked, but seems to fit the bill of the “midfield general” we’ve all been looking for. He made 45 appearances for Watford last year, scoring four goals and was awarded the Players, Player of the Year by his team mates.
