LUFC: Transfer deadline day live updates

11:32 am in LUFC by TSS

Updated throughout the day, welcome to The Scratching Shed’s transfer deadline day updates thread.

10:20 - Sky Sports are reporting that Leeds United have agreed a fee with Manchester City for the permanent transfer of Adam Clayton.

10:37 – Leeds linked with Rangers striker, Kyle Lafferty. With a likely fee of £2-3,000,000 and Blackpool also in the hunt, this one seems unlikely. Leeds also seem to be suitably covered in the striking department.

11:30 – Rumour circulating that Luciano Becchio could be on his way to Blackburn Rovers. He was allegedly spotted outside Ewood Park earlier today. Sounds like nonsense.

11:52 – The official Leeds United site has confirmed the signing of Ramon Nunez, who has been on trial with the club for the past month. No details about contract length have yet been released. Full story here.

12:17 – The BBC’s live transfer rumours feed also has us linked to Man City defender Dedryck Boyata. Norwich apparently leading the race, with us and the Toon keeping a close eye on proceedings.

12:48 – Betfair claim that we’re keeping tabs on Jason Roberts should his move to Wigan fall through.

13:39 – Michalik gone to Carlisle on loan until January the 3rd. One down…

14:15 – Simon Grayson on Yorkshire Radio confirms that a fee has been agreed for Adam Clayton with Manchester City. Contract negotiations currently under way. Expects one or two others to leave today after Lubo went to Carlisle. Hints that another player may sign today too. Full story here.

14:38 – Yorkshire Radio presenter, Thom Kirwin confirms that Luciano Becchio was training with the Leeds team this morning. This quashes earlier rumours that he was at Ewood Park (unless he’s got a body double?)

17:00 – With just one hour to go, Manchester City have confirmed that Adam Clayton has joined Leeds United on a permanent basis. Full story here.

17:47 – A very brief statement on the official Leeds United website reveals that Alan Sheehan has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Unforgettable games: Leeds 7-0 Southampton 1972

9:00 am in History, LUFC by TSS

1972 finished with Bremner lifting the FA Cup

To tie in with the launch of TSS’ new YouTube channel, we’re going to be taking a look back at some of the greatest games in the history of Leeds United Football Club.

In 1972, Leeds were flying high and Don Revie was keen to rid the club of the ‘Dirty Leeds’ tag that had cast a black cloud over the most successful period in the clubs history.

Don was keen to prove that The Whites weren’t just a team of hard-tackling, fearless and uncompromising footballers, but also one that was bursting with skill, flair and talent.

Arsenal accept Leeds’ loan offer for Henri Lansbury

9:01 pm in LUFC by TSS

Lansbury in action

Another Arsenal youngster could be joining Sanchez Watt at Leeds United after The Young Guns blog revealed Arsenal have accepted a loan offer from us for midfielder, Henri Lansbury.

Leeds will face stiff competition for the 19-year old with several other clubs believed to be interested in his services, including Swansea City and Premier League new-boys, Newcastle United.

The key to Leeds capturing the England U21 international could be fellow Arsenal youngster, Sanchez Watt who is already on loan with the Whites for the rest of the 2010-11 season.

Highlights of yesterdays Championship win over Watford have now been added to the bottom of the match report which you can find here.

Three points for Leeds, but Somma cast aside already?

9:00 am in LUFC, Posts by TSS

Still to come...

Leeds got their first away win, and first clean sheet of the season yesterday at Vicarage Road, but without the help of in-form striker Davide Somma who had to watch on from the bench.

After scoring three times in just 110 minutes of football, a lot of Leeds fans were expecting to see Somma in the starting XI. Failing that, the very least we expected was a second half substitute appearance, but the gaffer brought on new boy Ross McCormack instead.

Dismal display from Watford and Leeds, but the Whites take the spoils

7:50 pm in 2010-11, Championship, Match reviews by TSS

Richard Naylor makes amends

Alongside the usual faces, I was accompanied on the 180 mile trip down the M1 by my younger cousin, Craig (hereafter referred to as ‘Lightweight’). Lightweight currently lives in Spain, but is visiting for a couple of weeks because he misses the summery gale-force winds and unpredictable downpours, that you just don’t get outside the UK

Leeds United sign Ross McCormack from Cardiff City

12:45 pm in LUFC by timhodge

Ross McCormack

Striker Ross McCormack has signed for Leeds today

24 year old Scotland international striker Ross McCormack has signed for an undisclosed fee (rumoured to be around £300 000) from Championship side Cardiff City.

McCormack is a proven Championship striker having notched up 33 goals in 88 appearances as well as two in three sub appearances this season.

The deal became public earlier in the week when both clubs released a statement on the deal after McCormack’s agent had spoken to Sky about it. A three year contract has now been agreed with the player and he should go into the squad for Saturday’s game against Watford.

There was some speculation amongst fans that the deal may not go ahead, either because of interest drummed up by the player’s agent or because it was a ploy to get another Cardiff player, Gavin Rae. There were also rumours of a late bid by Hull City that could jeopardise the transfer.

Fans can rest assured that we have now acquired the striker. How he will fit into the side is another question though. With Davide Somma, scoring three goals in two games and Luciano Becchio providing consistent performances, Simon Grayson will have to decide which striker starts in his recently favoured 4-5-1 system or whether to change the system to incorporate two or more of them.

As we approach the end of the transfer window (and the deadline for Premier League 25 man squads) fans may be hopeful of seeing another addition to the squad after Simon Grayson and Ken Bates have talked of adding an extra midfielder. This could mean we see Honduran trialist Ramon Nunez join sooner rather than later as a decision is set to be made this week.
