Rotherham United star Kieran Agard is Massimo Cellino’s next target as the increased sense of urgency to Leeds United’s transfers continues in the wake of a poor showing at Millwall on opening day.

Agard has been on The Whites radar for a while with Cellino himself scouting the League One play-off final at the end of last season as Rotherham won promotion to the Championship.

The 24-year-old who started his career in the Arsenal academy before making his professional début at Everton had a hugely impressive 2013/14 scoring 26 goals in 54 appearances.

It appears Leeds United may have a job convincing Rotherham to part with their star player however. Agard would have been out-of-contract this summer but Rotherham exercised a clause in his contract which allowed them to extend his stay by an additional year. They’ve since attempted to extend his contract further and insist they have no plans to sell despite the interest being shown.

But Agard has rejected Rotherham’s offer of a new contract and as we’ve been victim to ourselves many times over the last few years, when a player is in his final year and wants to leave, the club often has little choice but to sell.

Deployable as a forward or a winger, Agard would further strengthen the Leeds United attacking line following the arrival of Billy Sharp yesterday.

Arguably our best signing if he plays wide. I feel like Jim Morrsion and the Doors after a stint in the desert munching chems – so many Leeds signing headlines. Is this a dream? Is it really happening? Seriously, we’ve plenty of dead wood on the way out the door, but I will be disappointed if we let Matt Smith go or catch a cold on the bench all year. I think he learned a lot last year in the division and is growing in stature. Shame to pass him on.

  • Chris Taylor

Reminds me of Ian Wright watching them goals… Things are deffinatley looking up but I suppose people will still moan

    • TSS

You realise you’re moaning about people moaning, further adding to this perceived wisdom that all we do is moan? Shame on you.

      • Chris Taylor

Haha me bad: ) I have been optimistic all pre season willing to give the hock and these new players a chance… Then I went to Milwall and my opinion quickly changed

        • TSS

I think they need time to gel and we have to wait and see. Easy to get carried awau when a load of new players are brought in, but a lot of them don’t know the league or each other and haven’t had benefit of pre-season to work out the kinks.

          • Chris Taylor

I agree but there’s a lot more positivity surrounding these players than the ones we’ve signed in the past and any more players that will come in and push hunt further down the pecking order surely is a good thing haha

  • mrbigwheels

I can’t keep up!. If this comes off and Hockaday ‘coaches’ em and ‘gels’ em…
How bright this season could be…

  • mrbigwheels

    GOOD MORNING…… LEEDS UNITED.

  • Ropey Wyla

We must sign Agard, simply coz of that goal celebration!

  • LUKE HARRIS

GET RID OF HUNT AND MORRISON THIER FUCKING RUBBISH, KEEP POLEON SMITH AJOSE DOUKARA SHARP AND GET THIS GOAL MACHINE TOO, THE LIKES OF POLEON AJOSE DOUKARA AND AGARD CAN PLAY OFF SHARP OR SMITH OR WIDE OF THEM. PLEASE GET RID OF HUNT AND MORRISON OR WE WILL NEVER SCORE GOALS. ALSO TONGE AND NORRIS GET RID OF THE OLD DEAD WEIGHTS.

    • mrbigwheels

If Agard comes in surly their will be some ‘outs’.

Ajose played better up front than when on the wing last year, but has some promise.
Smith does not need moving on, he just does not give up and is improving every time he plays.
Poleon is an impact as his talent stands at the moment. Perhaps needs further time at Leeds but suspect he’ll be loaned out or sold.
The new boys have to gel in but I can’t believe they are going to take that long.
Morrison does offer something and to be fair he’s scored two out of two but I’m wondering if in reality… we really do need him.
Mr Hunt… Many of us are beginning to feel a bit sorry for him, he’s done it before bu as an out an out striker I don’t think he’s ever going to do it at Leeds and we will all become even more annoyed if he keeps getting ‘popped out’ on the pitch… (always looks like he’s better suited to a game of tennis to me). Ah well…

Has Cellino already pitched Morrison and Hunt several weeks ago… out into the FL darkness when he specifically outlined the pair highlighting their potentials….. Hopefully at other football clubs.

      .

      • LUKE HARRIS

yeh i agree with you about smith, good target man and good player to have in the squad, havent seen ajose yet, hered hes got some pace so thats an asset we need, poleon though i do rate i think hes got real potential given a chance and i much rather take a chance on him or even walters than play hunt or morrison, we dont need them in my opinion, and old hunty would probably be shit at tennis aswell. We are Leeds United one of the biggest clubs in england and im sick of old passed their sell by date not up to the level we need players using the club for money, get them out and get the young hungry players who want to have a go for us, atleast then win loose draw you know these guys are givin it there all for us. And i might add Cellino has done brill so far though some of the additions look real quality. MOT.

The more likely outcome is loaning players out, but even then we’d be paying some, if not most of their wages. It’s shocking that a few million is going out on players that have no purpose here. It says a lot about the past regimes more than anything, we’re stuck with overpaid(By Championship standards) players that nobody else will touch.

Looks like we are signing the best players last.better late then never

  • Bluesman

Got to admit tgat Cellino has firmed us up at the back and in the midfield, if we can avoid straight reds. This week is the icing on the cake for me. Agard in and Hockoday has some serious talent at his disposal.

Theoretically, we could now field an entirely new first team just from our summer signings.
I am pleased with the results of the recruitment drive, though it remains to be seen if Hock can mould them into a team and realize the potential of the squad. I am sceptical, but willing to give him a go.
However, we now have a squad that comprises of well over 30 players. Clearly, a third of these are surplus to requirements but it’s hard to see how they can be off loaded.

I’d be interested in opinions regarding our best starting 11 and bench. Who is in your 16 and who would you be showing the door to?

    • LUKE HARRIS

STARTING 11 WOULD BE. SILVESTRI, BYRAM BELLUSCI PEARCE TAYLOR, COOK AUSTIN BIANCHI, DOUKARA AJOSE, SHARP. SUBS. TAYLOR COOPER BERARDI,(RED CARDED, SO THOMPSON AS HE CAN FILL IN RIGHT BACK OR MIDFEILD) MURPHY BENEDICIC, POLEON SMITH. PLAYERS WHO SHOULD BE SOLD LOANED OR EVEN PAYED OFF FOR ME ARE, HUNT TONG NORRIS MORRISON 100% SELL, LOAN OUT ROSS KILLOCK, MAYBY LOAN CHRIS DAWSON AS WE HAVE MANY MIDFEILDERS NOW.

  • PMH

Agreed … it’s better late than never! We now have enough new signings, and they seem Championship caliber. With the boost to morale I expect a solid game against Boro, but a draw would be a good result. Most likely there will be plenty of tough matches (meaning losses) before we see this side’s true worth. I am revising my previous predictions upwards and projecting a mid-table finish in the division. Hockaday says the right things and hasn’t done anything wrong yet, so let’s give him a chance to prove himself. With a brand new team, there is no point in even making a judgement for a month. The catch is of course that Cellino won’t be able to cope with a run of losses and will foolishly fire his coach when that happens, and it is bound to happen.

Another failed transfer – Seems Agard rates himself rather highly. Looks like it’s Bristol City for you then mate. Leeds or Bristol I know which one I would choose, maybe Leeds are better off without him. On & on….
