SofaScore Live Score is a free Android and iTunes app that provides live scoring for an impressive range of sports including football, rugby, tennis, snooker and even Formula One race timings.

unnamed (1)Once you’ve download the app onto your device, you’ll be presented with a My Leagues screen which allows you to pick and choose the leagues and sports from which you’d like to receive live score updates.

For football alone, there are 559 worldwide leagues and competitions for you to choose from. Since there was no English football being played when I downloaded the app (15:20 on a Thursday afternoon) I selected all the leagues to test the features.

I found there was only one game in the world currently being played, a Tunisian Ligue 1 match between CA Bizertin and Olympique du Kef. As I fiddled around with the options, the screen updated to show CA Bizertin had taken a 1-0 lead, clicking on the match showed the goal had been scored by Olivier Karikazi in the 22nd minute. The tabs at the top also allowed me to see current league positions and previous results, all the information you really need from a live scores app, but even more stats are provided for top competitions like the Premier League and Champions League (as pictured).

Impressed that the app had provided an immediate update with the name of the goalscorer for what is, let’s face it, quite an obscure foreign league, I flicked to tennis where live updates were being shown for a tournament in Morocco. Again, the updates were coming regularly and the information was as comprehensive as you need in a live scores app.

For a free (ad-supported) app, this really is impressive. The extensive range of sports and leagues it covers makes it ideal for someone like myself who likes to keep an eye on other results in football, but also enjoys other sports such as tennis, Formula One and rugby.

The interface is clean, practical and easy-to-use, while the My Team and My Leagues features allow you to customise the app to your own individual needs. But the point I keep returning to is the range of sports and leagues this covers, because that’s what makes it stand out in an over-saturated marketplace. I can’t imagine too many situations where this app won’t provide the score updates you’re looking for.

SofaScore Live Score is available free from the Google Play and iTunes store.
