According to The Mirror, Leeds United are battling it out with Arsenal and West Ham United for the signature of 17-year-old Macclesfield Town defender Elliot Hewitt,

The newspaper claims that West Ham United are currently seen as frontrunners, with Sam Allardyce preparing a bid for January and Macclesfield prepared to accept the highest offer.

With Arsenal and West Ham also interested, you’d expect Leeds United to be ruled out of any bidding war. However, the presence of a Leeds scout at Moss Road on Saturday suggests The Whites are confident of their ability to compete for the youngsters signature.

Believe it when I see it…. He’s not free and there would be no point as bates will probably sign him
Up for 2 years then he’ll leave us for free like everyone else

Quite heartened by such a story. Investing in potential has to have its advantages over excessive investment in those who didn`t quite grasp their PL opportunity.

Be quite interesting to see which hand of West Ham`s accountant prevails. The hand holding the parachute payment or the hand managing their debt

I have already stated this on the TSS twitter feed,

My managers daughter is the girlfriend of this young man and he has told me Arsenal are favourites for his signature due to the amount he would cost however the player himself would prefer a move to one of the bigger names in the lower leagues for now such as Leeds or West Ham as he feels he would get more first team action to learn his trade. But its out of his control as he will go to whoever pays Macclesfield the most amount of cold hard cash!

Should we be trying to sign someone who plays with his eyes closed?

Okay – it’s just not a very flattering picture.

I cant see this happening when theres so much competition. If it happens ill eat one of my own slippers ! ( i hope it does though, as i quite like the taste of rubber )

Comon…. Get Serious…. As soon as there was competition for his signing, Leeds had lost out.

We couldnt even compete with teams like Huddersfield, Ipswich, Bristol or even Accrington f@*king Stanley.

The fact is that unless a player is free and willing to play for £10 a week and a packet of Hubba Bubba, they aint signing for Leeds United….Get used to it.
