Jonny Howson

Leeds United vice-captain Jonny Howson has been called up to the provisional 40 man squad for U21 European Championships in the summer.

The squad will be reduced to 23 on 1st June and the tournament begins for England on the 8th June against Spain. Regardless of whether Howson makes the cut, it can only help him improve playing and training alongside the likes of Jack Wilshere, Andy Carroll and Micah Richards under the eye of Stuart Pearce.

Howson was called up for a friendly against Italy earlier in the year where he came off the bench. He was also called up to a squad a couple of months ago but had to withdraw due to injury. The achievement reflects his fantastic performance this season and is fully deserved.

We wish him all the best.

Good to see him getting recognition and let’s hope he makes the final cut when the squad is reduced to 23 in a couple of weeks.

He’s had a good season for Leeds and played in just about every centre role you could think of to fit these new fangled formations :). Nice to see him get a chance at U21 level.

This can only be good for his confidence and overall play, an appearance in the U21 European Championships may give us even more inidcation of how he copes against skilled opposition.

On a completely unrelated note, my eyes just burned when, to my shock and horror and underneath the ‘Sponsors’ heading, appeared an advertisement for Scum season tickets. Don’t want those inapporopriate images soiling the good reputation of this site, sort it out Scratching Shed! ;)

    Good news for him personally.

For the good of the team next season would prefer him to be on holiday, not playing, but I expect he will not make the final squad. Good news for BatesFC if so.
