The news of Ben Parker and Billy Paynter completing 90 minutes for the reserves will be music to the ears of most Leeds United fans after the disappointing display against Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Ben Parker has had continuous injury problems since Simon Grayson took charge at Elland Road and the manager has had little luck trying to fill the void, with several failures brought in including Federico Bessone and the dreadful Tony Capaldi.

Meanwhile, summer signing Billy Paynter was injured shortly after joining Leeds United. The striker has had to wait over two months to make his Leeds United début after injuring his shin during the clubs pre-season tour of Slovakia.

The 2-1 reserve defeat to Stoke City also saw Ramon Nunez score for Leeds United, whilst Simon Grayson said it was pleasing to see Leigh Bromby, Alex Bruce and Aidy White get some much needed time on the pitch.

It’s puzzling to see no mention of sidelined keeper Kasper Schmeichel who was said to be a possibility for Saturday’s clash against Middlesbrough on the BBC’s red button service. It will be interesting to see whether there’s any mention of the Dane before Monday nights clash against Cardiff City.

Overall, there’s a lot of welcomed good news for Leeds United fans. An inconsistent start to the season has no doubt been in part down to the injuries some key players have been suffering with. With twelve games gone, the Whites currently sit a very respectable 10th and with players returning all the time we should be able to build on that.

Here’s hoping for Parker, played League 1 and 2 only but full of promise when he’s played and massively ‘up for it’.

Becchio and Somma look good but Paynter adds real presence I hope.

Kasper…why can’t we just get the truth from the club. Yorkshire Post says he’s out of the Cardiff game but we are given no real info from the horses mouth re our (probably) best player.

@captaincrash for the time he’s been out it must be a broken foot. I agree with you completely on Bates and his disinformation or lack of information. The club might gain a very small tactical advantage by keeping people guessing about who the lineup will be each match, but I think they’ve underestimated the demoralising effect their lies and vague, pointless injury updates have on the fans.

Great to see Nunez doing well too. I’m hoping he’s the next Somma.

Happy for the lads to be coming back and hopefully Nunez being back in the mix also. However, I still feel we have too many players out of their depth, which appears to be a common viewpoint amongst the fans. Many of us have been harping on about the calibre of our squad and its additions since we got promoted. There are a handful of teams in this competition who can adequately house premiership players via their facilities and crowds and we sit at the very top of the list. How on earth have we not taken more premiership players on loan???? I’ve said I want Grayson out by Xmas if we are not in the running, but Frank Rijkaard could not do much better without investment in players who are BETTER than Championship level. Taking players off teams we should beat in the division is a questionable strategy at best. I honestly expect a January clear out. Open that cheque book Ken, before your deathbed comes calling. Sorry to bring the mood down, but I for one want this club to go up, not consolidate in arguably the toughest and most random competition on earth.

It’s been a soul searching few days, and from SG’s pronouncements it appears he now feels he cannot correct certain things on the training ground, and he recognises that some of the squad have their limitations at this level.

For the forthcoming tough Cardiff , SG will have the same group of players ( without any loan additions) to fashion a team capable of putting in a hearty performance. As Phil Hay of the YEP commented, another defeat would give a stat of 4 loses out of the last 5 matches – bad form to say the least for any team.

That’s a place none of us wants to be, mid table or not.

Starting with a blank piece of paper, we must stop conceding goals, and if that means a more defensive formation to compensate for the back 4’s evident limitations, then fine.

More speed of thought and energy in the performance is also a must.

It’s a tough few days for SG and the staff & squad and I’m genuinely hope he pulls it out of the bag.

I do wonder about our training.

Snodgrass, Paynter, Schmeichel, Higgs, the U19 keeper we loaned from Liverpool, Max Gradel & Ben Parker’s recurrance of an his original injury…

Then again, we seem to be getting kicked a lot this season.

Agree about being more defensive lets play 2 defensive minded midfield players faye and bruce let them sit in front of the back four play 3 attack mf snoddy howson watt somma lone front man and a back four of connolly collins bromby mcartney that might give us half a chance
