Four games in to his loan spell at Lincoln City and Davide Somma netted his third goal on Tuesday to salvage a point for the Imps at home to Dagenham & Redbridge.

“The Daggers looked set for a valuable away victory in League Two on Tuesday night until Somma, on loan from Leeds, latched onto a header from Steve Lennon and smashed his shot into the back of the net.” Teamtalk Lincoln City

Struggling Lincoln have seen a mini-revival since Somma’s arrival. The on-loan Leeds United striker scored on his debut against Crewe Alexandra to earn the Imps a 1-1 draw and followed it up with a belter to open the scoring in their 3-1 win over Hereford.

Lincoln are undefeated in the four games since Somma’s arrival and are comfortably clear of the League Two drop zone with ten games remaining.

Davide’s loan at Lincoln is scheduled to end on the 25th of this month and Simon Grayson must have noticed the impressive run of goals since his arrival. Somma was sent out to gain match fitness after an uneventful loan period at Chesterfield earlier in the season and may have gone some way to forcing his name into the managers plans.

The young South African could be just what Leeds United have been looking for too. A powerful striker, standing at 6ft 1. He’s shown a lot of aerial ability in his reserve and loan games so far, which is something Leeds United have struggled for with Becks and Luci at times this season, so Somma should definitely offer the manager something different.

In the meantime, Davide will get one final chance to show his ability for Lincoln this weekend when they visit fellow strugglers Torquay. Assuming there’s no extension to the loan agreement, Somma should be set to return to Thorp Arch following that fixture.
