Jermaine Beckford has confirmed his transfer to Newcastle United by speaking to Goal.com. Neither of the clubs have made any official statement as yet, but hearing it from the ‘horse’s mouth’ is good enough for me.

After negotiations between the two clubs over the last week or so, Leeds United are believed to have accepted Newcastle’s third offer which is no doubt an ‘undisclosed fee’.

The news was broken by Beckford telling Goal.com;

“I’m off to Newcastle”

He refused to make any further comment making it quite possibly the shortest statement ever made by a player transferring clubs.

Contrary to what some readers believe, I don’t think Beckford’s move will have an adverse affect on our promotion dreams. The post from this morning titled ‘Have Leeds United hit the self-destruct button’ was actually written by Gledders. My own personal feelings on the matter are that Simon Grayson knows what he’s doing and will find a suitable replacement for Beckford.

Whether we move for my preferred favourite Gary Hooper, someone else such as Billy Sharp or no one at all we’ll still be a force in this league as we have players like Robert Snodgrass, Patrick Kisnorbo and Bradley Johnson who are well above their current level.

More to follow…

  • Seems as if he’s about there.
Only time will tell if he’s good enough but certainly worth a shot.
I don’t think Leeds will miss him an awful lot but again, time will tell.

Hope he leaves whatever bad attitude he has behind him.

    • nowayhome

Not true. It’s a made up quote. The line about the transfer request is wrong -it wasn’t three days ago it was on the 30th.

  • Craig

This move will make Becks realize that he’s not as good as he thinks, to play CCC and Prem defenses every week is very different from League 1 crap that he plays now, I honestly believe that in a season or so he will miss Leeds as he won’t get the same support elsewhere and will join a long list of players who’s careers turned to shit after leaving ER. He undoubtedly has quality but will he get 4-5 chances a match at these levels of football to score whilst carrying the expectations that a new club demands with it?

  • Lewis g

billy sharp i’d like to see brought in, but id give grella the starting role in the meantime see if hes up to the job. use the money for gradel as well. also snodgrass could be played upfront what with our resources of having 5 first team midfielders at the moment and just bring in a back up midfielder

  • Dje

I think any player who cant keep stum for a matter of hours, and has to blab out that “he’s off” to the first amateur online journalist that inquires, is a personnel liability – good luck Newcastle!

    • TSS

Found that quite weird actually because he doesn’t usually do interviews. The last one I remember was the ‘what shirt am I wearin’ bruv?’ one. Since then, total silence.

      • TheReaper08

Not sure about that at all. Whilst I don’t doubt the deal is imminent he never does interviews and all he could say is ‘I’m off to Newcastle’.

Why do you like Hooper so much ? I don’t know a lot about the lad.

        • TSS

Every time I’ve seen him play he’s looked a class act. Plus he has a similar record to Beckford, but with less chances and he’s only 21. Sign him up.

      • Dje

Likewise. I did check out Goal.com – hoping to find a sound-wave file of an interview with Beckford or at least something that was a bit more cast-iron that the site just saying, “Yeah, he’s told us he is off. Honest”.

But then even for a player who’s been with us for a few years now, I really wouldn’t recognise his voice anyway, for as you said, he’s not one for talking.

        • TSS

I gave them the benefit of the doubt for two reasons.

          1) they’re generally accurate and this would ruin their reputation permanently if it was unfounded.

          2) We knew he was going anyway. I could have claimed the same and had a good chance of being right by morning. It’s set in stone, but I don’t doubt Beckford has admitted it.

          • boopolo

I think this was written on goal with the presumption it will happen anyway. The bit about Becks squad member friend stating that there were no offers from Villa sounds dodgy.

  • Matt bb

Beckfords loss, leeds will be playing in europe and paying better wages than newcastle in 4 years from now. They are broke and with a manager 1 percent as good as simon grayson, could have been a real hero with us jermaine, youve let yourself down.

    • DJG

”leeds will be playing in europe and paying better wages than newcastle in 4 years from now.”

Your not even in the championship and although I have no doubt you will get there there’s absoulutely no gaurentee you will ever get back to the premier leauge, never mind europe. Skint little yorkshire club. The days of Kewell, Viduka ect are long gone.

      • Matt

I thought it was you that the debt? :s

    • northern_Jedi

hahahahahahahahahahaha……are you for real? 40,000+ every week; next season we’ll be averaging 50,000 p/week in the PL whilst you jokers struggle to survive in the CCC! Next you will be telling be that snodgrass is better than jonas gutierez, johnson is better than jose enrique, doyle is better than super Alan smith and kilkenny is better than Nolan!

Welcome to the toon Jermaine lad….Theres nothing worse than sour grapes; i’m sure you will go on to score boat loads with us and playing at the likes of old trafford will become a regularity with a decent team xxx

      • Matt

Well seeing as Johnson isn’t a left back, Doyle is on loan, Snodgrass isn’t an international like gutierez, and Nolan shouldn’t have left Bolton, then your pretty much stating the obvious, but thanks for your input anyway. It’s much apreciated, as we poor Leeds folk needed reminding of the blatant superiority complex you barcodes have :)

  • Andrew Williams

To be quite honest I think he’ll fall flat on his face, but I wish him all the best. He’s done a lot for this club and you only have to rewind less than a week to see that however I just believe that he’s being dragged along by his agent and been told by his agent to make this move. Leeds tried to keep the transfer request quiet and rightfully so, so that the club could stay settled, instead his agent releases the fact he has made a transfer request and I also believe that his agent has pushed this move.

I suppose you only have to look at the amount of players that have moved clubs for “better opportunities” although some of those were forced to be sold because of the massive debt we had.

I really hope we get Gary Hooper in as a replacement but I somehow believe that it will either be Lee Barnard or Billy Sharp as Barnard is also out of contract at the end of the season and at Southend(that don’t look to be going places) and Sharp isn’t really wanted by Sheff United. There’s rumours that McLean from Peterboro is also meant to be in Leeds’ interest too.

  • TheReaper08

I was in favour of Sharp but he does seem to be a player that thrives in the smaller club less pressure atmosphere. Interested in Hooper as his stats show he is a consistent aqnd progressive player but I don’t know a huge amount about him.

  • LUFC-mac

I’m quite sure that we already have a replacement lined up. SG has said that all along and anything SG says is good enough for me!!
There are lots of good goalscorers at our level and above, Sharp, Hooper, Barnard, Wilbraham, all capable of bagging a good number with the chances given.
I’m sure Mike Grella will step up as well.
Even push Snods up as suggested, with our strong midfield.
No probs, confident in SG for the future!

What about a swap deal with Smithy??? (Only joking, honestly!!!)

    • TSS

I’d take Smith but he wouldn’t score enough, even at this level. Barnard was linked this morning, but then everyone will be over the coming days.

      • LUFC-mac

But remember the big local hero who left for the scum!

      • TSS

The circumstances surrounding that move (ie. he believed in going, his transfer fee would save Leeds and was effectively pushed out the door) should always be taken into account.

        • Lewis g

i’d welcome smith back with open arms.. still hope he’ll return someday.. maybe next season when in championship :P

        • TheReaper08

It has nothing to do with THAT move for me. It has everything to do with the fact I have never rated him. He has morphed into an agricultural midfielder from a not very good striker, and the legs have gone as well now.

          • LUFC-mac

I’m with you reaper, always great effort but minimal skill, anyway he wouldn’t get in the team now!

          • Matt

Although, we could benefit from having a player like Smith. Our team seems to be a bit lightweight in the middle of the pitch, wouldn’t you say?

  • Mark

He’s just trying to a manufacture a move. Cartoon are pulling strings. They dont want to pay top dollar. Put them in their place Bates.

  • NeilUK

Its bizarre to me that Newcastle want him, don’t get me wrong he’s been brilliant for us but he’s never done it at Championship level even and Newcastle seem as certain for promotion this season as we are. He absolutely isn’t good enough for the Premiership. Look how David Nugent struggled and in everything but pace Nugent is better than Beckford.
To analyse his goal against Man Utd a brutal observer may state that his horrible first touch accidentally took Brown out of the game. At 26 he isn’t going to get better, unlike Nugent who is only 23 I believe. Also his game is totally about pace and again at 26 he can only stay the same for a while then slow down. He may do ok for Newcastle in the Championship for 6 months but in the Premiership look for him being loaned out to a lower league club this time next year.
If we got £3m for I would have driven him there! Thanks for what you did for us Becks but hope you enjoy your place on the bench for the rest of the season, you ain’t dislodging Ameobi or Harewood!!

  • Max.

I hope Beckford does well and wish him the best. He’s done a good job for Leeds. He’s got enough skill and pace to make it in the Championship. Not sure about the next level but if he wasn’t going to do it with Newcastle at 26 I’m not sure he’d help Leeds much there at 28. Newcastle will have to change their style to fit around him, and have some Becchio equivalent to do all the running for him, I look forward to seeing how they refit the side in mid-season (having said that, it’s a job custom made for Alan Smith).

Sharp’s record at Scunthorpe is better than Hooper’s was, and I think he’s a better bet. He’s scored away from Sheffield United in the Championship, so his issues there may be more to do with Blackwell working his magic. BTW Simon almost went for Warren Feeney in the summer, and Feeney is now also back at Cardiff after his loan to Dundee … and Cardiff need to offload costs.

    • Lewis g

god i hope we dont bring in feeney! hooper or sharp.. or an unknown pacey talent from abroad :D

  • paull

I don’t think this will derail us too much. 56 points from the first half of the season is a hell of an achievement and I acknowledge Beckfords role in that but he wasn’t out there alone. There are at least seven or eight regular first team players who I would be more disappointed to loose. Our defence has improved beyond recognition from last season and our midfield has worked extremely well so you would expect an out and out striker to score goals. Personally I think he will regret the move for reasons that I’ve already stated. I don’t think he’ll get that many games at St James Park in the championship, and if they go up I think he’ll be playing reserve team football in the premiership. Still he hasn’t earned much in his short career so if the talk of trebling his wage is true I suppose we can’t blame him. I honestly believe that by the time Leeds entertain Newcastle in the premiership in a couple of year’s time Beckford will be watching it on the box from his Exeter motel room where he’ll be playing on loan!

  • TSS

    Replacement odds on Skybet;

    Hooper 2/1
    Sharp 5/1
    Barnard 8/1
    Pericard 10/1
    Jackson, S 10/1

    • LUFC-mac

Jackson at the Gills is a speedy lad, may be a fair punt

      • Matt

Yeah, never really thought about him,he looked quite dangerous (with limited chances) against Leeds and we beat them 4-1 on that day. Definitely worth a punt.

  • simcol68

i would like to see us go for kevin philips hes sat on the bench at birmingham he would get a net full in this league would be a good stop gap to help get us promoted then we can look in the summer for a younger proven striker when simon starts strengthening the team for our push for the prem

    • Acid

Have a word with yourself simcol68! lol
K Phillips ffs??? Not a chance.. he’s one nail from the coffin..
Hooper for me without a doubt!!

  • Ed Harrison

I would expect that Leeds accepted the 1.5M final offer from Newcastle – it remains to be seen whether he’ll make it in the Premier League though. Our two youngsters Andy Carroll and Nile Ranger look very good and coming on a ton. We’ll see you guys in the PL the season after next.

    • paull

Hope you’re right about the season after next and hope you do the double over Manu and Sundrerland before we get there.

  • Lewis g

actually simeon jackson would be a good bet!!

    • TSS

Barnard has been rumoured too, so at 8/1, not bad odds.

      • TheReaper08

And a fair shout because Sarfend are skint,he is in the last 6 months of his contract and he won’t be on a lot of money either.

        • Matt

I don’t like the idea of Pericard :O

  • Steven Phillips

Maybe we should have sent Alan Smith the other way as part of the deal .. not sure if Beckford will ever be Premiership quality but i know for a fact that Smith isn’t … are the whispers about Beckford and his big time attitude and suspect friends true or just bad blood after he decided to move on ?

    • LUFC-mac

Leeds fans have never really taken to the petulant, bad attitude that he has. Totally different to Smithy obviously

  • Harry

Beckford is dumb enough to make a comment like that without a deal being agreed. SG stated this afternoon that Beckford would be considered for Sat and SG is not dumb enough to make a comment like that if a deal has already been agreed. I think he’ll be sold if and when someone offers £2m.

  • TOON ARMY

LMFAO !!!!! How fickle. Days ago you were all so jubilant and full of admiration for the fellow. Not least because his goals have put you in number 1 spot. Leeds Leeds Leeds and all that pure tosh. You will be playing Boro next season whilst we will be putting the dirty mackems back in the mighty toon army shade ! COME ON YOU BLACK AND WHITES !!!!!!

    • Harry

Mighty toon army shade? Can’t remember you ever winning anything in my lifetime, when/what was your last trophy?

      • LUFC-mac

Newcastle and District Senior Trophy 1974

      • TOON ARMY

Ohh if you want to bring up facts mate, try these.
Leeds cups 1st Division wins 3. Fa CUPS 1
NUFC 1st Division wins 4 Fa Cup 6.

There is NOTHING glorious about Leeds, your only redeeming credit that you won the old division 1 title back in 91/92 season. But in all fairness, we werent THAT far away from matching that either in 95/96. Sucess is not based on cups in this modern game with money being as it is. In our time in the league we finished top 6 7 times with 2 second places (even Liverpool only match that !!!). Oh and you got to the Semi final of the champions League.

        Today….League one……LEEDS LEEDS LEEDS. righto whatever ! lol !

        • TheReaper08

Claiming second places and runners up – Quality.

          • TOON ARMY

Why not ?! Seriously ?? Do you think Leeds will EVER WIN the English Premierleague title in your lifetime ??? Very premature to suggest that finishing places is not honorable. Could be because you are still to wash down that rotten taste of relegation into League one.

        • Harry

You’d have to be in your 90’s to remember the last time you lot won the league, all you’ve listed above is a load of disappointment.

    • TheReaper08

Not exactly TOON ARMY.If you had bothered to do any research prior to your post you would have seen that Beckford divides opinion massively. A lot like myself appreciate him for his goals but also acknowledge that he may well struggle at a higher level. Others simply have never rated him due to his bad attitude, poor work ethic and dire first touch.

P.S. Whilst you are being run by Ashley the clown you may have a long long wait before you put the Mackems in the shade.

      • TOON ARMY

I’d LOVE to see this “divided interested” in this forum marra. I read the posts, all pure slating the fella man.

        • TheReaper08

It was ‘divides opinion’ and if you read further up the thread you will see for yourself.

Quite a few haven’t slated him myself included.

        • LUFC-mac

For a player as prolific as beckford has been for Leeds, some fans have never taken to his antics. He’s lazy, petulant (many stupid bookings and sending offs) when he doesn’t get his own way.
But mainly because in important games he goes missing, remember Millwall in the play off semis? crap showing and that penalty?!?!
His goals will be missed but not the person himself!!

    • Harry

Have just been on your website and seen that amongst your list of ‘honours’ are a number of entries into the UEFA Cup. Priceless, you know your desperate when you list entering a competition amongst your honours.

      • TOON ARMY

Harry, WTF are you talking about you muppet. WHERE did I list “entering a competition” as an honour ????? You brought up CUP facts, I put you right. We have won 5 times more FA CUPS and one more Division one title ! I never said anything about entering a competition ?!

        • TheReaper08

          And European honours ?

        • LUFC-mac

Harry did say in his lifetime!!
You’re not 105 are you Harry?

          • Harry

Not quite 105 but in my 40’s so have seen us lift the title 3 times in my lifetime

        • Harry

Please print my comments in big letters and read them slowly, I said it was listed on your website you ignorant Geordie fool.

          • SimonNUFC

This whole my dad’s bigger than your dad malarkey is pathetic!
Leeds & Newcastle like it or lump it, we both find ourselves in the leagues we’re in cos of merit, we’ve both had our fair share of success & failure, both loyal large fanbases & both found our misfortunes laughed at by the London press & the rest of the fickle country (who once supported us both as their second favourite teams).

I’m a student in Leeds and the only fans amongst friends who I found didn’t grief me for what we went through last year were the Leeds fans, who only sympathised with me, so credit to you guys!
To be honest I’ve fell in love with Leeds as a city, nice place!
I personally think you are back on the right tracks & think if Beckford is all you say to be, could be some unwanted figure on tyneside as well – we have a tight knit squad of players currently proud to be wearing the back & white stripes & playing for the badge and I hope Beckford if he comes doesn’t ruin that.

I do find the Goal article a bit weird and think we should all take it with a pinch of salt though & wait til both our club’s official sites confirm this.
Hopefully we will see you guys in the premiership in 2 seasons time.

            SimonNUFC

    • hermanhesse

Toonarmy. I am a leeds fan with close connections to nufc, and to hear you call us fickle is comical! Let us see how your ‘ever so forgiving and tolerant fans’ react to JB when/if he is playing for your beloved bar codes. You berated Ameobi, one of your own, for missing a chance here and there. If you think JB will fire you to promotion, I for one, think you are deluded. Then again, as your post suggests, you have an inadequacy complex relating to Sunderland, So what is one more neurosis among many? Leeds Leeds Leeds (and all that tosh x)

      • Matt

Herman, that is worthy of a nobel prize my boy.

  • colin.

Odds on Leeds will bank the money until next season,no need to replace Beckford as Kandol will take up the reigns. When It looks like Leeds have got into the championship Grayson will take a premiership loanee centre forward.

Could Harewood be Beckfords replacement with a monetry package?

    • Andrew Williams

Harewood is still on Villa’s books, and also his wages will be far more than we can afford. He’s looking for Premiership football and Wigan and Hull are meant to be after him, slim chance really Colin?

  • Paul South Wales

I wish him well, and hope he exceeds in the CCC.Can’t see him doing much in the PL though, but time will tell. When Viduka went i was gutted, but hey we’re Leeds United and the next hot property striker will soon be attracted to ER like a moth to a flame. Aaron Mclean i’d like to see, but either way i’m now looking forward to a new player coming in sooner rather than later though. In the meantime we have enough adequate replacements so let’s push on, onwards and upwwards!

  • Craig

If he goes at £2m and Wealdstone get there £400k then £1.6m and hopefully some money from uncle Bates purse (let’s face it Manure and Spurs is £1m+) then Gradel needs to be made a permanent deal and I’d go for Hooper, he’s 21 5ft 10 good in the air and will only get better 31 goals in 62 apps, plus I think we could get him cheaper than many others touted around and I can’t imagine he will break the wage bank at ER

    • Matt

Don’t forget the agent fee :)

  • Grumpy Older Man

If he has gone, good, better its over than draging on…However I wonder just exactily how that fits with Grayson’s comments earlier today about using him Saturday, joking about it at training and just generally giving the impression he agreed with the “don’t tell” policy.

    • Craig

That was filmed yesterday.. a lot can happen in 24 hours

      • TheReaper08

And wasn’t the third and most decisive bid put in late today ?

        • LUFC-mac

          Apparently £2 million!

  • GeordieBoy

    Colin,
I don’t think you could afford Harewood’s wages as it is rumoured that he is on 28k per wk.One of the reason’s why we didn’t sign him.

    • LUFC-mac

That fat slow lump wouldn’t get in the reserves!!

  • danny

now youve lost beckford leeds will be lucky to reach play offs any money youl start losing now

    • LUFC-mac

      What a ridiculous post.
Just look how far we are clear.
      Lucky to reach play-offs?
      prat

    • Craig

have you not read who could be replacing him?? get a grip Beckford doesn’t make the team, whilst i am sorry to see him go his goals can be replaced

  • danny

ok youl make play offs but more wembly heartache for leeds and any decent team hangs on to plyers how bag twenty goals with half the season gone!!! prat

    • TheReaper08

Players move for extra money, better location, higher level etc. Happens to everyone.

Your post isn’t based in foundation as the stability of our side comes from having the best defensive record in the English leagues.
Yes he is a fine league 1 goalscorer but if you don’t concede you can’t lose games.

      • danny

i agree you need a good defence which you might have but when youve got someone in who starts missing chances it puts pressure on the team big time and how many late goals have you scored this season? and grella didnt score them

        • Harry

You’re right, Grella doesn’t score late goals – apart from the 2 injury time goals he scored the last time he played??

          • danny

2 ok how many did beckford score to win games late on muppet

    • Craig

Clearly you don’t know your arse from your elbow or anything about the Leeds team other than what the Daily Star prints, we had this whole issue last year over Delph leaving and how it’d be the end of the world, all that did was make our squad players step up to the plate and we have had an amazing season so far, we need 34 points from 23 games and Swindon who barely have a striker in the squad have got 38 in 22 games

      • danny

your bitter because as soon as your players get good you sell them simple and if you didnt youd still be in prem but your not league 1

        • Harry

your posts are shocking – you must be 4 yrs old, pissed or a geordie..

          • danny

            all three

          • Stephen

Very funny, Harry! Made me chickle… 4yr old, pissed or a Geordie! ha!!

  • GeordieBoy

Not so much Harewood more like Tortoisewood.

  • danny

    marlon turtle nappa

  • Andy

He’ll be sorrier than we are before very long. He’ll disappear into the reserves at Newcastle and be transferred back to a League One club in a couple of years. He’s just signed off on the end of his career potential.

Leeds is a nurturing club, and always has been. Many young players have come up through Leeds, either starting with us as youngsters or being brought in and developed. Whilst at Leeds, so many young players have flourished, then moved on to find their careers tail off elsewhere. Here’s a few names… Kewell; Woodgate; Bowyer; Smith; Robinson; Milner; Lennon; McQueen; Jordan; Ferdinand (who was a gangling inconsistent liability with ‘potential’ that West Ham couldn’t realise, was developed by O’Leary into the best central defender in the country, then deteriorated into inconsistent mediocrity under Ferguson).

At Leeds, Beckford’s nurturing and development would have continued.

Newcastle, though, is NOT a nurturing club. They buy talent in. If an incomer doesn’t quickly meet the fickle and inconsistent expectation of the toon faithful (who are every bit as vocally and unpleasantly critical of out of favour players as the Leeds fans), they’re binned, not developed. And the toon fans expect their players to work hard and put it about a bit (they actually like Barton, for God’s sake!) but they’re not keen on indolence and moodiness – sometimes (too often) Beckford characteristics.

And that’s what awaits Beckford. Career, meet toilet.

I feel sorry for the lad. He’s worked hard, tried hard to use his particular skills, run hard, got into opportunity positions and poked a decent number of goals in. He’s not the brightest star in the intellectual firmament, though, and he’s had the poor judgement and bad luck to place his welfare in the hands of an unscrupulous greedy selfish agent who clearly cares much more about his own income than about Beckford’s long term best interests.

Bye bye Beckford, Beckford bye bye.

    MOT.

Let’s see what Grella can do with a decent run in the first team.

  • danny

leeds are a selling club always have been whats the point in these so called great growing players when you sell them? maybe if youd hang on to them youd still be in the prem enjoy your play offs at wembly at least youl get a good day out but long ride home ont coach

    • Craig

What choice was there when there is £110m debt and the Tax man banging on the door?? out of all those players not 1 was sold before our debt so we aint a selling club, just a club ho had debt issues and you will see this year will be the worst year for clubs with 5 teams already on the verge of collapse and more to come, we have our debt sorted so we won’t be in the position of having to sell again

      • danny

        dry your eyes mate

      • danny

        blame peter ridsdale not me

All clubs are selling clubs danny don’t be a moron. Price and the players desire dictates the transfer as in this case.

Name me a club that isn’t a selling club and I will show you a player they didn’t want to sell.

Incidentally and only a minor point what’s a great growing player ?

    • Andy

      What a load of bolleaux.

Selling club? Don’t be so stupid.

Here’s some who weren’t sold: Harvey; Reaney; Cooper; Bremner; Charlton; Hunter; Madeley; Lorimer; Gray; Gray; Radebe; Kelly; etc; etc. Clarke and Giles, too, became great players when they moved to Leeds and stayed. Sprake only left after a fall out. Batty and Speed were already over the hill when they moved on.

We were only ever a selling club when we had no choice during the period of intense financial difficulty caused by Ridsdale and fixed by Bates.

      • danny

all in the past who will go next 3/1 grella 6/4 snodgrass 8/1 becchio

        • Andy

Okay, I appreciate you’re a Geordie so I’ll use easy words. Please read them nice and slowly.

You claimed Leeds has always been a selling club. I’ve provided you with a simple proof that you’re wrong and don’t know what you’re talking about. Of course, those are never reasons a Geordie would accept for shutting up.

Leeds is financially sound, largely thanks to Ken Bates. It does not need to sell anyone. That’s how it almost always has been.

Newcastle is financially precarious, however, because it’s run by cowboys. Newcastle crashed and burned last season, and for years to come it’ll not be far from doing it again.

I listed lots of players Leeds developed and didn’t sell. I wonder what the Necastle list looks like… There was Shearer – oh, no, you sold him and he only became a toon great when you bought him back after his talent was developed elsewhere. There was Milburn – but you don’t want to talk about ‘in the past’. There was … erm… can’t think of anyone else! Does Newcastle actually have a youth policy? It only seems to get players by letting other clubs find them and develop them then nicking them from clubs on hard times.

          • SimonNUFC

Just because one WUM comes on, don’t try and stereotype us all!
Newcastle is actually in the best financial standing we’ve been in a long time, we were close to crashing & burning under FS, buying expensive has-beens & prima donnas who were only in it for the pay cheque.
With Mike Ashley and the new way, we’ve brought in a lot of youth who are currently coming through the ranks – Carrol, Ranger, Kadar & Krul to name but a few. Also Forster, who is currently doing a great job on loan at Norwich.
We did lose our Academy Assistant Manager over the summer and for most we thought this would be the end of the youth system we had started to put in place since Ashley came to the club, but have since replaced him recently.

Moreover Shearer wasn’t ever a Newcastle player til we bought him, at the trials for Newcastle, he played in goal and subesequently never got offered a contract!

Admittedly in the past we have been stupid and thrown money at any player, but that’s all changed – in a way I’m glad we dropped into the Championship and did all this, because we were in danger of imploding and we have more than halfed our wage bill & at least halfed our overdraft.

Not that this means that FCB has been forgiven of course, just that if he continues in the ilk he has, maybe just maybe, we might start to think of him as a good chairman!

          • SimonNUFC

Forgot to add hope you guys are well, loved watching you lot beat the mancs the other week!

          • Andy

Yes, I’m sorry for having a go at Geordies. It was late, and Danny was being a pain.

I used to live near Newcastle, and I think Geordies are lovely people in general.

And I’ve never really had much against NUFC (whereas I’ve never had much for Sunderland except dislike). I’d certainly rather see the toon do okay than those red gits over the Pennines.

            Shearer in goal? Surreal!

    • dave

LEEDS a selling club did newcastle not sell gascoinge beardsley wandle want me to go on idiot…

  • danny

a youngster with great potential that doesnt want to be at leeds

    • TheReaper08

Oh that’s a great growing player, I thought we were talking about someone who was 3ft one minute and 6ft the next. The actual offical ‘danny’ classification is a great young player that doesn’t want to be at Leeds. Thanks for that.

      • danny

3ft one minute 6ft the next have you miracle grow at elland road hey beckford might shrink now hes left ya

        • TheReaper08

Here is a clue danny, I am taking the piss out of you.

          • danny

you dont say m having a crack

  • GeordieBoy

The best centre half I have ever seen in a Black ‘n’ White shirt in over 36 years of following the Toon was Woodgate. An absolute Rolls Royce, shame about his injuries as he should have won 100 caps.
Value for money the best signing we made from LUFC was Terry Hibbert in 1971 for 30k, an outstanding player with a wand for a left peg.

    • Trebor

I’d suggest Lucas Radebe for £250k was probably the best value for money buy we have made in my lifetime. I wasn’t around in 1971 :)

      • Ramblinjohn

        Amen to that comment!!!

        • Matt

The best bargin buy for Leeds was Viduka from Celtic for 6 million; he’s a free agent now. He was a fantastic player, and took part in the best game i have evr seen at Elland Road, which was the 4-3 win over liverpool. You could argue that he did more than just ‘take part';)

  • danny

all i can hear is delph this beckford that woodgate this ferdinand that martyn this kewell that its all past there all gone they left you and ya sound dead bitter

    • Craig

Not really, history is what makes the club what it is,players leave shit happens, you won’t find many clubs to have the character to come back from the brink of despair and challenge once again. We have 5 full international players in League 1, when promoted to the CCC this will increase, regardless of what you think of Leeds we will always attract players and yes those very same players will probably leave because 99.9% of players haven’t stayed at 1 club all there career. We are past bitter and that will be proven in 5 months when we are promoted as champions

      • danny

good luck to you hope you do

  • MAC (Arthur Graham & TC fan)

dont agree with that – chances are – with the % chances this team creates per match – that any new hungry forward worth his salt will bury MORE chances than Beckford did – I say we will be 15 points clear in no time

bring in the new Gert Muller to finish the chances provided by Snoddy and Co –

that magic side I watched out pass, out tackle and out run MUFC was another 10 men not just JB

bring the new boy on – what a ticket for him – ( Gary Hooper ?? )

    • danny

good luck to yer man get billy bremnar back youl win league 1

      • Matt

Oh dear Danny. Thought you were more mature than that :/

  • AndrewM

For all who are upset about losing Beckford, here’s a quiz:

You’re in a boat with Beckford, Paddy Kisnorbo and Simon Grayson. The boat springs a slow leak and you’ll have to throw one overboard or you’ll all drown, so

Q1. Which one gets thrown overboard?

Q2. Who gets to inform Beckford’s family when you get back to shore.

    Marching on together!

    • Couldn’t agree more mate, thanks for your service & shut gate ont way out won’t you!

    • TheReaper08

      Quality.

  • buster leeds fan

danny you must be a manc, and your only being a prick coz your shite club is going down the pan

  • MAC (Arthur Graham & TC fan)

no regrets – good luck to the fella at the Toon – now bring in the new – a hybrid of Sniffer and Yeboah please – the perfect striker LOL

  • buster leeds fan

hell yeh torres and stevie g gone in summer then they fucked

  • danny

not a scouser i actually liked leeds fans till i came on here and were slagging my team off you can give it but cant take it mind dry your eyes

    • TheReaper08

You have had some great Leeds players pass through until they left to go onto better things.

I guessed you were a Toon fan from your inferiority complex,do you think you will ever be able to challenge the Mackems again in your lifetime ? I presume your very young so I suppose there must be a chance at some stage.

    • Craig

if theres been 1 club that was as badly mis managed as much as Leeds it was Cartoon UTD, IF you didn’t have a multi millionaire in charge you’d be well and truly fucked! Even with a multi millionaire in carge yu still somehow couldn’t buy your premiership survival due to money grabbing players who couldn’t care less… and you’ve just bought another who thinks with his wallet rather than his career… you boys will never learn

      • danny

        no more essaqys please craig

    • timm

Good luck to Beckford at the Mike Ashley Sports Direct JJB St James’s Park or whatever the fuck it’s called this week!

      • danny

    • Andy

What a fine way to sign off. I almost wish I hadn’t been rude about Geordies now. Almost.

    • TheReaper08

Later danny, good luck to the Toon for the rest ofthe season.

  • buster leeds fan

on a personal happy note for me, being a newport boy down in snowy wales, nice to see ridsdale(scum)wrecking cardiff city(wankers)

    • Craig

I know we all moan at Bates for been a penny pinching wanker but atleast we won’t crash like we did under Ridsdale

  • mark s

Just had a text saying we’ve been speaking to qatar re Alves, former boro? Windass was in response to kevin p. Bit old I would suggest.

    • MAC (Arthur Graham & TC fan)

Alves, just checked his form and stats – pretty impressive goal tally recently

dark horse – bring him in and Hooper – Bechio can play with either

      • we have been watching this from down under very closely (bloody hot here in Mbne at the moment – 41 degrees on Monday!!) Beckers is obviously not that bright and his mgr is constantly pumping him up. Let him go. He is not a team man. Grayson and Bates form the perfect combo and thus we will be in the premiership very soon. I look forward to players coming to our club, on our terms, and performing as strong and loyal club men – no sissies allowed, eh Vivian

  • JC

We have seen how players go to bigger clubs and flop. He should be contented and be a legend at a smaller club than become a squad player at a bigger club. Surprise also that newcastle will be interested in him…..i guess they are a bit like us, no longer able to attract better or star players like Owen and Shearer no more.

  • leave smudger alone,he did what the wankers runnin us at the time asked him to,from the old school.

  • lets just get on with our club, players will come & go @ least we are still here.so marchin on and upwards together.

  • Old Billy White

Couldn’t agree more. We are not a one man team, and SG has done well so far with his signings and team selection. If Beckford is going in this window then sooner rather than later, to stop all of the speculation (and good luck to him). Would like to see Grella given a chance from the start up front.

  • Matt L

If he really goes then I think it’s the best thingfor the club. Bit of cash in and get another striker in or give Grella a run.
Think Beckford will find life tougher elsewhere and may regret his move. Needs to improve his first touch before he will be Prem class. Good luck to him….

  • Andy NUFC

Just came on here to see what Leeds fans thought of him. Mothers side of the family is from Heckmondwike and I know they think he might be ok in the Championship but he’s nowhere near Prem quality. What I didn’t know about was his attitude problem. Sounds like a short term signing and given we’re doing ok in the CCC by dint of being slightly less shi*te than everyone else I’m not sure we need to change things until the summer.
As a Newcastle fan can i just apologise for that dribbling idiot Danny. I’ll admit that, probably because of the family connection, I’ve always had Leeds pretty high on my hate list….slightly tongue in cheek maybe, but I’d be a liar if i said any different. It didn’t stop me enjoying you beating Man U the other day although I still tell my uncle it’s ‘about five to’ (nufc 5-2 lufc) everytime he asks the time. But Danny’s just a nob. An embarrassing nob. He’s probably one of those dicks that does interviews for Skysports outside the ground at 11am on a weekday, all badly spelt bedsheets and no job. So sorry about him.

Simon NUFC – really agreed with all you said til you spoilt it suggesting Ashley is alright. The bloke is a cancer mate, we might go up now but if he gets his way he’ll sell us in August having spent all summer haggling for the highest price as we’re “in the facking pwemiership innit”. And then we’re left to start the season with a lovely bloke but tactical dunce in Hughton and a team with only 4 or five adequate players (Harper, Enrique, Taylor, Carroll and maybe Jonas)

Anyway best of luck Leeds (honestly) cheers and soz aboot Danny

  • lar..lufc

this time we will see what bates will do with transfer fee.
same ol story..any talent what so ever…sold.beckford will be a huge gap to fill.as usual time will tell…….please no more donkeys.

  • colin.

latest news….Beckford straight swap with carroll

  • Yorkshrman

TSS, now you see the downside of those increasing visitor stats …… it attracts a fair few dickheads!! (From Newcastle AND Leeds ……) “My club’s bigger than your club …. we won more games in ancient history than your lot did ….”

    Sad.

And sad to see the incredible double-standards of some people ….. slagging off Beckford because he wants to move away, then presuming that we’ll snap our fingers and take Hooper, Sharp, Barnard or whoever to replace him. Great to see the irony in that ……!!!

  • Just want to say sorry about Danny! NUFC’ve had some great ex LUFC players over the years, inluding Hibbitt, Batty, Woodgate, and Viduka (though I blinked and missed that game!). I just hope JB does more for us than that evil little Cockney dwarf of yours we acquired!!!!

  • MAC (Arthur Graham & TC fan)

and dont forget Imre VARADI – good player for both LUFC and NUFC

has Beckford signed for toon or what ???? lets get this sorted and move on
